The season one finale of Riverdale planted a huge seed for the coming season. Polly and Betty have a long lost brother. It’s going to be a very fun dynamic to introduce into the series, as Betty searches to locate and reconnect with her brother. We have a long time until this plays out, but YEM is going to hold you over by listing our top picks to play the new blonde-haired cast member.

(According to Archie Comics Wiki: Chic Cooper is Betty’s elder brother and is probably the eldest of the Cooper children. He has strawberry blonde hair and is a prankster. Betty’s cat Caramel is shown to like him a lot. He is a secret agent for the government.)

 

Ansel Elgort

Ansel Elgort is right at the top of the list. He isn’t a household name, but you will recognize his face. He had prominent roles in a number of films such as The Fault In Our Stars, Divergent, and Carrie (2013). Elgort is well versed in the teen drama story and will easily acclimate to the series. He also bears a striking resemblance to the coppers themselves. Elgort is starring in the upcoming Edgar Wright thriller Baby Driver. A successful theatrical run will elevate his career further, which may make this casting very unlikely. However, we’re hoping that one event does not affect the other.

 

Will Poulter

The actor who portrays Betty’s brother will depend heavily on the type of character the writers want to create. Creative possibilities are always fun and that is why Will Poulter is one of our top choices. You will recognize Poulter from his roles in The Maze Runner, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, We’re the Millers, and The Revenant. His characters are less of a pretty boy and more complicated. Poulter’s character wont be a typical Cooper. He can have more of a troubled past, creating a conflict between him and Betty in season two.

 

Chris Zylka

Christopher Settlemire, known professionally as Chris Zylka, had some guest roles in 90210 and Hannah Montana, and the short lived 10 Things I Hate About You series. Most recently, he played Tom in HBO’s The Leftovers. Zylka has the perfect physical characteristics to play Betty’s brother. He’s also capable of handling darker adult storylines, which is always an added plus. Zylka would make a fine addition to the cast of Riverdale.

 

Freddie Stroma

Freddie Stroma is known for his minor roles in the Harry Potter series, and Game of Thrones. Stroma has naturally blonde hair and looks younger than he actually is, which benefits him here. The catch is that Stroma primarily acts using his natural English accent. However, if he is willing to hone an American accent, we think he would be a good fit for the role. Additionally, his new series, Time After Time, was just cancelled which opens up his calendar for a new show.

 

Colton Haynes

Colton Haynes is the most likely candidate on this list, as he is already in the CW family. Haynes is best known for his roll as Jackson Whittemore on Teen Wolf and Roy Harper/Arsenal on Arrow. Both of these roles demonstrated that he is a versatile actor capable of handling drama, romance, action, and you name it. Since his character on Arrow is no longer on the show, I’m sure he’d love to work with Greg Berlanti again. He’s the prime age for the roll, so all he needs is a little blonde hair die.

 

Totally Wacky Option:

Dylan Sprouse

With Cole Sprouse rocking black hair dye as Jughead, the writers can opt to bring in his twin, Dylan, as Betty’s blonde headed brother. Riverdale would be pushing it a bit with this one, but it would definitely be a sight to see. Since Betty and Jughead are in a relationship, it would be quite the conflict to have Betty’s brother look just like her lover. If he does get the role, there needs to be an episode titled The Sweet Life.
