The CW just announced that a spin-off of the hit show Riverdale will be coming to the network. The spin-off series will be called Katy Keene. It will premiere on the CW this fall.
It was previously announced that Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale will play the title character, Katy Keene. Katy is an aspiring fashion designer, based of the character of the same name from the Archie Comic universe. The show will take place in New York City.
And Lucy Hale won’t be the only familiar face on the show. Riverdale’s own Josie McCoy, played by Ashleigh Murray, will star in the show. She will play a slightly older version of Josie. When we last saw Josie, she was saying goodbye to her home in Riverdale. She was going on a nationwide music tour with her father. Now, the new series will see Josie in New York where she crosses paths with Katy Keene.
This isn’t Lucy Hale’s first time on the CW. Last year, Lucy starred in the series Life Sentence. The series was cancelled after one season.
Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa co-wrote the first episode. He will serve as an executive producer. Roberto celebrated the announcement of the new show on his Twitter account. He posted: “One door closes, another opens! So thrilled that Katy Keene is coming to the @TheCW with this beautiful cast! So grateful to @thatthingofwhen and Maggie Kiley for all the love they poured into this show! NYC, here we come!!!”
The CW also picked up a Nancy Drew series. The classic character will be played this time by Kennedy McMann. The show is set in the summer after Nancy graduates from high school. The 18-year-old thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college. But when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation. And along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined. The network also picked up a Batwoman series, starring Ruby Rose.
