Yesterday, Freeform gave a preview of what viewers can expect to see on the channel in 2019. At the 2019 Freeform Upfronts, the network told attendees about the newest additions coming to the channel in the year ahead. New shows and more seasons of fan favorites were announced and even some new additions to the network.
Many of Freeform’s fan favorite shows were renewed for more seasons. Siren was picked up for a season three while The Bold Type was picked up for a season four. Freeform also informed attendees that reruns of The Simpsons and Family Guy will be coming to the channel. Plus, the channel announced new movies that will be part of the 31 Nights of Halloween lineup.
But the biggest take aways from the Upfront presentation was new shows. Freeform announced and released trailers to three upcoming shows.
Everything’s Gonna Be Ok is about Nicholas, a neurotic 25-year-old still living at home with his single dad and two teenage half-sisters, one of which has autism. He is not particularly helpful in raising his siblings, but when their dad becomes terminally ill, the girls have to cope with not only a devastating loss but also the realization that Nicholas is the one who will have to hold it all together. The show is written by and stars Josh Thomas.
Party of Five is a reboot of the classic 90s series. The show follows the five Acosta children after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. The series stars Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado and Elle Paris Legaspi. The series, like the original, is created by Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman.
Motherland: Fort Salem is set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country. The series follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world — but with supernatural tactics and weapons. The series stars Ashley Nicole Williams, Jessica Sutton, Taylor Hickson, Demetria McKinney and Amalia Holm.
