Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon are back! And that’s not all of the familiar faces the new trailer, which premiered November 16th, showed fans. Of course, the trailer also showed a few new faces and confirmed which villains will be in Spidey’s third Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie.
After arguments in 2019 between Walt Disney Company and Sony Pictures Entertainment about Sony’s profit participation in the project, it wasn’t certain the film was going to be made. However, Holland evidently had quite a bit of influence in getting the film back on track and it just might lead to the biggest film in the young star’s career.
As mentioned, returning in Spidey’s universe will be Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Peter’s best friend Ned, and Marisa Tomei as Peter’s aunt, May Parker. Jamie Foxx will be playing Electro, the character he played in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Alfred Molina also appears in the trailer and will be reprising his role of Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2. The trailer shows the Green Goblin, the Lizard, and the Sandman will be some of Spider-Man’s bigger challenges.
Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch has been said to be reprising his role as Doctor Strange and will supposedly be playing the “mentor” role as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) did in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Nick Fury/Telos (Samuel L. Jackson) did in Far From Home. However, the trailer indicates there may be some conflict between the two as well.
Directors and crew include:
- Director Jon Watts returns
- Written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers
- Produced Amy Pascal & Kevin Feige
The stakes are high with the third Spider-Man movie. Based on the film’s official site, the synopsis says for the first time in cinematic history of Spider-Man, the hero will be unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from his Super Hero one. It will deal with the aftermath of Far From Home’s ending *SPOILER,* where Spidey was accused of being a drone-controlling terrorist by Mysterio and his identity of Peter Parker became known. The action-packed trailer shows him being taken to court for allegedly murdering Mysterio, fighting what seems to be the biggest villain, the Green Goblin, and trying to decide whether the villains Doctor Strange has locked up to send back to their own universe should be released and not sent back.
The best part? Rumors are spreading that The Amazing Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield and original Spidey Tobey Maguire might be returning and joining Holland’s Spider-Man world. Which means the final showdown in No Way Home might pit all of the villains against all of the Spider-Men!
Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released in theaters December 17 and will be the final release this year for the MCU films.
