In anticipation of Season 3, let’s conduct an in depth refresher course of the Season 2 Finale! “Master Plan” was the cherry on the cake of Season 2. Not all-out carnage, but enough transformative violence to keep things unpredictable. “Master Plan” picked up immediately after the events of “Battlefield,” in which Jackson had killed himself and Stiles went missing. Mrs. McCall tried to ride to the hospital too. The mystery of where Stiles had gone ended up getting solved right away with the reveal that he had been thrown into the Argent basement by one of the hunters. Down there, he found a pair of baby werewolves and one particularly ornery old man. Stiles went to try and defeat the man, but LO AND BEHOLD THAT GUY WHOOPED HIM.
Meanwhile in the locker room, Scott was taking meetings with some of the grown-ups. First he tried to help Stiles’ dad the best he could, then he told Coach that he’d work on bringing his grades up so he could rejoin the team. Seconds after everyone disappeared, a pair of werewolves showed up to figure out how to deal with the Jackson Threat. Back at the Argent home, Mr. Argent had had his fill of Gerard’s antics and his own daughter’s bad attitude. He destroys Allison’s crossbow in a fit of rage.
Stiles made it out of the Argent house and has an emotional hug-it-out session with his pops. Meanwhile, at the hospital Mrs. McCall was nosing around the aforementioned body bag and suddenly JACKSON’S BODY STARTED CONVULSING. He clearly wasn’t dead! We learn a bit more about Kanima lore. Gerard had forced Jackson to kill himself in order to start a metamorphosis into an Alpha Kanima.
The werewolves-in-the-basement turned out to be for nothing since Mr. Argent freed them. He’s Team Werewolf (for now!). Mr. Argent then met up with Scott and Isaac to sneak Jackson’s body out of the hospital, and spirited him away to a warehouse. In the warehouse, Derek suggested to Mr. Argent that Gerard had been controlling the Kanima. Suddenly, Gerard from the basement showed up and everything turned CRAZY. A huge fight ensues involving three wolves, a crossbow, a bunch of guns and a lizard.
Over the course of the fight we learn a doozy of a secret — All season long Gerard had been conspiring to become bitten by Derek so that he could become a werewolf and it would cure his terminal cancer. Mr. Argent was deeply disturbed by this knowledge, understandably. Especially when Gerard admitted that he’d stop at nothing—not even the deaths of his family—to get that bite. It seems like all is going to plan. Right before the bite, however, we see Scott had double crossed Gerard and replaced his pills with Mountain Ash! Gerard dies in a pile of black ick.
Jackson dies, AGAIN, in another brouhaha. Lydia cradled him in her arms and lowered him to the pavement. Scott held Allison’s hand. AGAIN, he’s not really dead and this final straw helps Jackson turn into A WEREWOLF.
Scott and Alison break up in one of the shortest relationships of the show (which is saying a lot). Boyd and Erica escaped the Argent basement, they ran around in the woods all night before finding themselves surrounded by a pack of werewolves (ARE THEY ALL ALPHAS?)!
The episode ended on a pleasant note, with Scott and Stiles playing lacrosse. Scott points out that once again he was back to being single and benched, while Stiles reminded him that the main difference between now and before he became a werewolf was…the whole werewolf thing. But more on that in Season 3. Bring on the Alphas!
