The Fosters has managed to deliver many heartwarming, emotional and complex moments over the epic first season. Callie and Brandon’s connection is clearly one of the strongest on the show and continues to be both complicated and fulfilling for each. We knew they had something special the very first time Brandon went chasing after Callie at school. The complicated nature of the show makes their relationship one of many layers; living with the same foster parents (who happen to both be women) and each coming from unfortunate backgrounds are just some of the situations and issues they face. The writers and directors of this new show have outdone themselves with the way the relationship is portrayed amidst all of their obstacles. There are so many OMG moments we can’t even begin to count! But that’s totally why we love Callie and Brandon. We are invested in their successes, failures and everything in between.
In The Fosters’ latest episode, Callie chooses family over Brandon. It’s evident to us that Callie is actually choosing Brandon in some ways, as he is part of her family, albeit through adoption. Callie must feel so confused and overwhelmed by her emotions: she has always been scared of accepting love, while still eager to have it in her life. We can definitely relate to Callie, and her strength gives us hope. She has her moments of weakness but we always manage to root for her. Everybody has made a mistake or done something they shouldn’t have. Callie shows us that you have to stay true to yourself and those you love while making your own choices. We are in awe of her strength given the tough hand she’s been dealt. Calle is a great role model for girls her age and it’s awesome to see her grow every week!
Brandon probably feels torn as well in his own situation. We can’t imagine what it must be like to have feelings for a girl who will be moving in with your family. He seems to genuinely want happiness for Callie. Whether it’s a brotherly or a romantic love, it seems to be working. Maybe it’s a little of both. The relationship is unconventional to begin with so why not! We think it adds an extra layer of caring and genuine companionship. Brandon’s ability to put Callie first is refreshing and shown especially when he gives Callie the time to adjust to being back home. It was a brave thing to do and we think a good thing for the course of their relationship. Distance tends to make the heart grow fonder. It could be good for each to have some time apart.
Despite both of their efforts to make it work, Brandon & Callie’s relationship will likely stand many obstacles. Just like any relationship, but these two truly have their work cut out for them.
