The Way Way Back Film Review

The Way Way Back posterWith an all-star cast and an unbelievable front man (Liam James), The Way Way Back is a film for the right now. It’s a warm-hearted coming-of-age story about a boy searching for himself. Parents divorcing, long term relationships going nowhere, sons and daughters not listening to their parents in summertime…it’s all here.

Duncan, played by young Hollywood actor Liam James, is on his way to his Mom’s (Toni Collette) boyfriend’s (Steve Carell) summer home with his daughter (Zoe Levin). A socially awkward loner, Duncan leaves his dysfunctional little family unit and finds his way to Water Wizz water park, where he meets an unlikely friend and confidant (Sam Rockwell) who becomes his guide and father figure throughout the film. Duncan learns who he his and finds his way, touching everyone else in the process.

Maya Rudolph, Allison Janney, Amanda Peet, Nat Faxon, Rob Corddry, Jim Rash, River Alexander, and YA favorite AnnaSophia Robb all make an appearance in this unforgettable story about growing up and learning to become who you are.
