It would seem that casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than it takes Disney to fast-track something into production, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date each month on who’s playing what, who’s not, and who should. The roles and stars everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…
Your #1 stop for Scream, the TV series casting news! MTV has cast Bex Taylor-Klaus (Sin of Arrow!) on the show as creative outcast type Audrey Jensen. Connor Weil (Sharknado) is also set to join the series as a regular, playing an all-American jock type. We can’t wait to see who gets killed off first!
Speaking of Arrow, Clancy Brown (Starship Troopers) is set to join the spinoff series The Flash in a recurring role as The General, a nefarious militant leader with dark intentions for Plastique.
The Brittany Murphy Story will be hitting small screens on Lifetime, starring Grey’s Anatomy’s Amanda Fuller in the lead role of the talented but troubled actress who died way too young at 32.
Another biopic of an ill-fated young woman in the entertainment industry is coming together. Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith will play Missy Elliott and Timbaland, respectively, in the upcoming Aaliyah biopic. Also attached are Alexandra Shipp, Rachael Crawford, Sterling Jarvis, Lyriq Bent, Anthony Grant, A.J. Saudin and Jesse Sukunda.
Spy Kid forever Alexa Vega and Gotham’s Brette Taylor will recur on Season 3 of Nashville, respectively playing Kiley, Gunnar’s first love, and Pam, a new back-up singer with a checkered past.
Let the superhero trend continue. Olesya Rulin, Noah Taylor and Eddie Izzard will all be a part of Powers, a superhero fantasy series based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. The show takes place in a universe where many people possess superhuman powers, and two detectives are charged with keeping order between those who have these abilities and those who don’t.
Renewal news: Unsurprisingly, ABC Family has ordered a fourth season of Switched at Birth! All we gotta say is: Yay! On a sad note, the network has decided to cancel Twisted after just one season. We’re sure we’ll be seeing more of Avan Jogia, Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Denise Richards, Ashton Moio, and Kimberly Quinn in other projects though!
