The small Maine town of Chester’s Mill is abruptly and gruesomely separated from the outside world by an invisible, semipermeable barrier of unknown origin. With no Internet access, no mobile signals and limited radio communication, the people trapped inside must find their own ways to survive with diminishing resources and rising tensions.
When the dome comes down, Angie McAlister’s mother is having brunch outside town, leaving Angie and her younger brother, Joe, to fend for themselves inside the dome.
James “Junior” Rennie is the son of “Big Jim” Rennie, a local councilman, car dealer and dramatic presence. Junior is in Chester’s Mill for the summer back from college, where he had a football scholarship, but has recently decided not to return so he can be closer to Angie McAlister, who he has known since at least third grade and took to junior prom.
They have a physical relationship, but when he tells her he loves her, she rejects him and a violent side of Junior emerges. He becomes jealous and carries a knife to threaten any man who talks to Angie, including the mysterious stranger Dale “Barbie” Barbara. Junior is prepared to go to extreme lengths to be with Angie.
Angie’s brother Joe is a smart and curious young teenager. He is at his house when the dome comes down not far away. Joe is very interested in the dome and inspects it, quickly discovering that it only gives off an electrical charge at the first touch, comparable to an invisible fence. When the rest of the town’s teenagers are partying inside the dome, Joe goes to investigate it, to learn more about it. He is already developing theories about it that are extremely advanced. It appears he has some sort of connection to the dome when it has a physical effect on him, the same effect it has on Norrie Calvert-Hill, a teenager traveling through Chester’s Mill with her mothers.
Norrie Calvert-Hill is the 16-year-old daughter of Alice Calvert and Carolyn Hill from California, who are bringing her to a tough love camp and only stop in Chester’s Mill for juice for Alice, who is diabetic. Norrie is a rebellious teenager and has recently been in trouble for sexting and other things. Her mothers are taking her to “camp” to straighten her out.
Norrie has a seizure shortly after the dome comes down, as does Joe McAlister, and she may prove to have a connection to the dome that is intriguing and terrifying. Find out what affect the dome has on the people of Chester’s Mill on CBS next season!
