Five seasons and almost a hundred episodes in and The Vampire Diaries still manages to surprise. It was an emotional hour for TVD, starting with Silas seated at a bus stop with a couple. He talked about how he loved Amara at first sight and how he had foiled past relationships with cheating. He explained how Qetsiyah turned Amara into stone and proceeded to explain to the young and in love couple how useless love is. To drive his point home, he killed the young man and the woman ran off, leaving her lover and proving Silas’ point. Ah, young love. Things are going well with Stefan and Elena, despite his nightmares. Stefan can now remember things following his bout with amnesia and Damon tested him to prove it. After successfully proving he regained his memory, Damon took Stefan to see Amara, who is beyond crazy. Damon told Amara it was Silas to try and get her to calm down…to little avail. We see Bonnie and Jeremy have a sweet couple of moments, however being in a relationship where you can’t touch one another is really cramping their style. At college, Katherine learns her blood work is normal from Dr. Maxfield. However, those 500 years are catching up to her and she’s aging at beyond a rapid pace. While Katherine frets about the inevitable nature of time, Silas enjoys his freedom. Damon calls Silas and he answers. He tells Damon that if Amara wants to die, he’ll help her, but he can’t do anything about Bonnie’s situation. Poor Bonnie. Also, she’s an anchor to the other side, so she feels all supernatural deaths, something which will cause her a great deal of pain over the course of this episode and later this season. Moving onto those deaths…three people died that Bonnie could feel. Stefan delivered a killing blow to Silas. Bye, Si. Silas died in the arms of Amara and not wanting to live for eternity without him, she stabbed herself, a la Romeo and Juliet. Quelle tragic. But wait, another girl was going to kill herself for Silas. Tessa, poor Tessa, didn’t realize the inextricability of Silas and Amara’s relationship, and offed herself to be with Silas. Things are getting a little crowded in the afterlife, no? Tessa’s death is especially bad news for Katherine. Don’t expect the rapidly ageing Katherine to get to know her daughter in her last moments, though. She told Nadia she wanted nothing to do with her so Nadia leaves. Apparently she’s heading back to Prague but it’s doubtful we won’t ever see her again. Are you happy Bonnie’s alive again? Are you going to miss Silas, Tessa and Amara?
