This American coming-of-age romantic drama originally premiered in 2022, carrying only seven episodes through Amazon Prime Video. For those who aren’t aware, the writer and creator of this show Jenny Han is the same writer who wrote the novelized version of the series and is the creator of this show. Production for this series began in 2021, with the cast members consisting of Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and others. The story behind the series is simple, as it follows the story of Isabel ‘Belly’ Conklin, who reunites with her mother’s family friend Susannah Fisher and her two sons Jeremiah and Conrad, in which a love triangle forms between the three teens.

As mentioned earlier, the writer Jenny Han is heavily involved in this series. As the original writer for the novels and writers of the shows, you might have heard of Han from her direct involvement in the following series such as XO, Kitty, To All The Boys: Always and Forever, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. If not through the other series, you might have heard of her from her young adult novels instead. Han’s works have won notable credits and awards. These credits and awards ranged from how The Summer I Turned Pretty became a New York Times Best Seller, to receiving awards such as the Young Adult 2016-2016 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature for To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a trilogy that she wrote after her first book Shug, and follows the same storyline as it does in the television series with a few notable changes. After her next trilogy, co-written with Siobhan Vivian, titled Fire with FireTo All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series became next on the list. Within weeks of its first publication, the series received a screen adaptation and held several positive reviews. These reviews spurred on the spin-off series that Han created as well, which readers will know was XO, Kitty. And now, here is some information on Will Spencer! A once-child actor, Will was known for his roles as Charlie from Ghost Squad, Bobby Spade from The Amazing Wizard of Paws, Billy Connley from A Tiger’s Tail, and Kyle from the short Envoy.

We first asked Will about his audition and the experience behind it for The Summer I Turned Pretty. Will answered that it was a lot of self-tapes and a couple of reads, and he also mentioned that he did a chemistry read with co-stars Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer, who stars as Steven and Taylor respectively in the series.

When asked how familiar he was about the television and novel series, Will answered that he had heard the name before. However, he hadn’t known or seen the series and commented that he didn’t even know what he was auditioning for until the end. When prompted if the series was under a codename, Will had answered that there wasn’t, but he did remember that his character was nicknamed ‘MGK’ for a while. If you want to know more about Will’s experiences with the series, be sure to watch the entire video for the full interview!

Consider This:

-Consider spending time with your co-stars! Putting away the formalities and spending time with others helps build rapport with people, and could potentially help develop scenes better.

-If you want to help sell the scene better, consider asking for outside help!

-The more time you spend with a character you’re acting as the easier it becomes.

-Collaboration with others helps: don’t be afraid to make suggestions! By the end of the day, everyone wants to help make the project a success!
