For those who have watched this show, Cruel Summer was released through Freeform back in April 2021. The show follows the story of two teenage girls, Kate Wallis, and Jeanette Turner. Set in a fictional town in Texas. Each episode focuses on the same day within the course of three different years: 1993, 1994, and 1995.
From those times, the audience sees the natural progression of the disappearance of Kate Wallis. They also see how Jeanette Turner turned from the sweetest and socially awkward teenager to the most popular and eventually the most detested individual in the world. The episodes alternate between Kate’s and Jeanette’s viewpoints, and the show contains heavy topics from child grooming and domestic abuse. It was mentioned that while the first season will show the lives and repercussions of what is happening in the girls’ lives. The second season will follow the rise and fall of friendship between the girls. The second season will premiere at the ATX Television Festival in June this year. It is set to premiere through Hulu on June 5th!
For some context on the show’s origins, here’s some mention of the author, Bert V. Royal. A playwright, screenwriter, and former casting director, he is most notable for his works: Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead and the film Easy A. The former served as a homage to the Peanuts comics with the kids as teenagers. It won an award for Best Overall Production at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival. It eventually became an Off-Broadway production, winning the 2004 GLAAD Media Award, and the 2006 HX Award. The latter Easy A was a spec script, and upon selling the script to Screen Gems, the show premiered in September 2010.
Here is some information on Griffin! An actor with 10 years of acting experience under his belt, he was renowned for his debut as Michael in Just Go with It. From that debut, he received a nomination for the Young Artist Award and also proceeded to have an impressive continuation of roles as the years passed. We first asked Griffin if Season 2 is in the same universe as Season 1. Griffin admits that it would serve there will be an easter egg for fans of Season 1, but he doesn’t want to spoil too much about it. Instead, he mentions that while Season 2 will be in the same universe as Season 1, he won’t admit what the easter egg is. When asked about his character Luke and how Griffin would describe him in three emojis without spoilers, he said: 😎, 🐟, and 💰. Griffin explains that Luke loves the water and talks about how Luke is from a very affluent family.
