The Summer I Turned Pretty has been a must-watch on people’s watchlist since its reveal in 2021, especially upon seeing its cast members ranging from Lola Tung to Rachel Blanchard. Created by the author of the original trilogy, the show premiered on June 17th, and the first season consisted of a total of seven episodes. The show was eventually renewed for a second season on July 14th, consisting of eight episodes. The synopsis of the story is as follows: following an annual summer vacation to her family friends’ beach house, Isabel reunites with her brother and twins Jeremiah and Conrad and eventually becomes involved in a love triangle between the two. The series features aspects of first love, first heartbreak, and the magic that surrounds that one, fateful summer between friends. For those who haven’t watched the show and are wondering where to watch it, watchers can see this series under Amazon Prime Video.

Did you know the series is based on a trilogy of the same name, based on author Jenny Han’s books? That’s right, the creator of the show is the author herself! Jenny was also involved in another series she has written herself, which you might recognize as To All the Boys series and the spin-off, XO, Kitty. The trilogy consists of three books: The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You, and We’ll Always Have Summer. The books are the same in terms of story, as it follows Isabel as she spends the summer with her mother’s best friend and sons, which that summer eventually turns into a romantic love triangle between her and the twins. This coming-of-age trilogy features independence as one of its main thematic points of literature throughout the trilogy and features the same cast of characters that are seen in the television series. While the series is more based on the first novel, the trilogy has not only become a national best-seller, the final installment was listed under The New York Times Best Seller list for at least a month. That’s a huge achievement!
