2022 has ushered in a plethora of new and exciting YA programming. YEM has taken notice of these shows and has compiled a list of some of our favorites.
1. Heartstopper
The webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman inspired the British coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama television series Heartstopper, which can be found on Netflix. The series, which Oseman created, focuses on Charlie, a gay high school student who develops feelings for classmate Nick Nelson. YEM did an interview with William Gao here, and Corinna Brown here.
2. Prisma
Prisma focuses on the friendships between Andrea and Marco, identical twins who appear alike but have different outlooks on life. The series also focuses on their friends who, like the twins, search for the meaning of life.
3. Heartbreak High
Hartley High school student Amerie must mend her reputation with the help of her new friends, the school outcasts Quinni and Darren, as she explores romance, sex, intimacy, and tragedy.
4. The Summer I Turned Pretty
Based on a series of popular YA adult books, the series tells the story of Belly, who meets up with her friends and brothers for an annual summer trip to their family friends’ beach house, where she becomes the object of affection for two people.
5. Vampire Academy
