To Be With To Be One


YA was lucky enough to chat with up and coming group To Be One. They have a bit of an unusual background, breaking out on America’s Best Dance Crew and never letting up since then. Madison, Mikey and Jason fill us in on their favorite artists, wanting to work with Justin Timberlake and their webseries on Awesomeness TV below. Check it out!

Young Adult: Tell YA a little bit about yourselves when you were younger…where did you grow up?

To Be One: We grew up in central New Jersey together. – Madison

 

YA: How did you all meet?

TBO: We all shared the same passion for dance, met at a dance school and immediately became best friends. – Mikey

 

YA: Tell us about your experience on America’s Best Dance Crew.

TBO: It was such a great experience it was our first time in L.A and on T.V, it was also so much fun seeing all the other dancers and making new friends. – Jason

 

YA: What was the high point of America’s Best Dance Crew?

TBO: The high point was making it so far [eventually ending up] as runners up; it was so unexpected and we were so grateful. – Mikey

 

YA: Were there any low points?

TBO: Coming off the show, some of the other members wanted to pursue their own dreams being solo, so we missed them but respected their decision, but we wanted to stick together. – Madison

 

YA: What has been your biggest success to date?

TBO: Recording our first single and putting out our music video has definitely been one of the greatest experiences. -Jason

Also getting signed to Atom Factory Music for our own record deal was surreal. – Mikey

 

YA: Do you guys have a mentor? If so, tell us a little more about him/her.

TBO: Our mentor would have to be our co-manager Layla Kayleigh, because she is constantly motivating us and it’s amazing to have her support, although she is a clean freak which is kinda annoying, LOL. – Mikey

 

YA: Tell us a little bit about the transition from dancing to music? That seems like an ambitious one to attempt, even though those two are related fields!

TBO: Making the switch wasn’t as hard as it sounds, because making our own music was something we wanted to do from the beginning, we grew up dancing to other peoples music so now we are able to dance to our own is unreal. – Madison

We have an amazing team, like Troy Carter and Layla on our side that have guided us through this and are helping make our dreams come true. – Mikey & Jason

YA: Who are some of your favorite artists or bands?

TBO: Justin Timberlake because he is an amazing entertainer and we grew up watching him, and he puts on a show like no one else. – Madison, Mikey and Jason

 

YA: Who would you most like to work with?

TBO: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE !!!! – Madison, Mikey and Jason

 

YA: What do you have coming up?

TBO: We are currently recording our album, and our EP is set to come out in 2014 – Mikey

 

YA: What can you tell others pursuing the same career?

TBO: Do what YOU want and not others want you to do, whatever makes you happy. – Madison

 

YA: What are your favorite books or what books are you guys currently reading?

TBO: I am currently Enders Game and it is turning out to be my favorite. – Jason

 

YA: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 10?

TBO: Touring the world with these bozos and meeting the To Be One Family. – Madison

TBO: It has been so much fun documenting our every day lives and showing the world what we do on a daily basis. – Jason

 

YA: What are three things you want your fans to know about you that they might not?

TBO: We live together, we like to go bowling and we are single 😉 – Madison, Mikey and Jason
