Reign, S01E09 – For King and Country


The most recent episode of Reign, the CW’s new breakout show, was definitely a major one. Finally, the entire series shifted from Mary and Francis’s relationship to her relationship with Bash. As you know, Bash is the king’s illegitimate son, whereas Francis is the expected heir to the throne. The episode begins with Mary and Bash fleeing the castle together. Although they make a valiant attempt at escape, they’re caught and returned. The king quickly realized that Catherine was associated with Mary’s disappearance. He forced Catherine to admit her part in breaking up Francis and Mary, although she didn’t reveal the prophecy. When Mary returned, Francis seems to forgive her off the bat and apologizes for his part in their rift. The king takes a different tactic and tells her she needs to marry Francis or Bash will be killed. The bait and switch of the episode occurs, however, when Mary tells everyone that she and Bash are engaged.
