This week on Reign was all about Bash… It’s about time that we learned more about one of the main characters! Before getting into all things Bash, however, let’s touch on some other, pressing issues. No mention of Nostradamus and Clarissa after last weeks stabbing incident in the dungeon. That’s sure to be one big mess to clean up when someone finally finds them. Catherine is still holed up in her cell, trying to make the best of things. That includes trying to poison and kill Bash to get back into good graces in court. Francis was nowhere to be seen – presumably exploring his newfound freedom. King Henry was also away this week…making Bash the acting regent. Those duties include listening to the complaints of the villagers and doling out punishment for crimes, including petty crimes. That brings in two new characters, Alec and Isobel. Alec is Bash’s former bodyguard and Isobel is a pregnant thief…who also happens to be Bash’s cousin and the daughter of a traitor. Mary tries to help Isobel escape the castle with Bash to save her baby. Bash, Mary, Isobel and Alec make it out of the castle but get waylaid at the Blood Woods where they get attacked by pagans. It is under this level of duress that it comes out that Bash comes from a family of heretics. Mary manages to delivery the baby safely in the woods, but unfortunately Isobel dies from complications of childbirth. In order to protect the baby, Bash has to return to court with Isobel’s body and say that he killed her as she was a thief trying to escape. With great joy, comes great sorrow, unfortunately. This episode revealed a softer side of Bash, the side where he’s a dedicated family man. This shows even greater contrast between he and Francis, and makes Mary’s choice that much more complicated. Tune in next week to see more from your favorite characters on Reign.
