You’re probably already familiar with Drew Seeley from his work, well, just about everywhere. But did you know that Drew’s full name is actually Andrew Michael Edgar Seeley, that he’s Canadian or that he got married this past year? We got a chance to chat with the uber-talented and handsome performer on what’s been happening, married life, and what’s coming up next!
Young Adult:When did you realize you wanted to be an actor?
Drew Seeley:When I was 11, I was cast in the ensemble of Showboat. I ran in Toronto for a year before heading to Broadway (I didn’t get to go to NYC, because I got ‘too tall’ haha). But that was when I fell in love with the idea of doing this as a career.
YA:What was that experience like (did you get to interact with the cast?)
DS:Yeah, I got to go on tour with the whole cast all over America and South America. Really felt like a proper rock star!
YA:What sorts of connections were made for future projects?
DS:Lucas Grabeel and I have collaborated on other projects like ‘I Kissed a Vampire.’ I keep in touch with almost all of them.
YA:What was experiencing the 80s like on Glory Daze? Did they give you like a whole wardrobe (how did they decide what to dress you in?) what was your favorite scene to shoot on that series and why?
DS:We had a day when the sun was setting, it was warm and we were filming going down a big hill on a water slide. I turned to everyone like ‘are we really getting paid for this??’ wow. The whole season shot over about three months in Pasadena and was one of the best work experiences of my life so far.
YA:You also did the TV movie Another Cinderella Story, and Love Struck, this time with you as lead (not just vocals). What’s it like being a part of the Disney Family? And working with such talented people?
DS:I’m glad they keep calling! 🙂 No, I’m just a hard working, full-time auditioning actor, who’s had the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time. A large number of times!
YA:So you plan on continuing with your music, are you planning any singles or albums We’d love to hear a new sound from you. You have an incredible instrument!
DS:Thank you! Right now, I’m writing for TV and some other artists. I had songs cut by Isac Elliot and Yoo Seung Woo this year, and a few in the pipeline for later this year. I will definitely release more music, when the time and vibe is right!
YA:What do you prefer TV and Film, or Music?
DS:It’s all fun. It’s all love!
YA:What do you have coming up?
DS:A film called Yellow Day. A web series called Coffee House. And a couple other things up my sleeve.
YA:Since this is part of a birthday treat to you, what did you want to accomplish over the past year, and were you happy with the results? What are you looking forward to for the coming year and how are you hoping to achieve that?
DS:I’m very happy with the past year. I got married to Amy Paffrath and have been enjoying this important time in our lives. As far as next year, career wise, we’ll see what’s up! I’m writing a lot more, I want to produce some original content soon, and just keep learning and playing.
YA:And we ask this to everyone… If you were to be in any Young Adult television show or film throughout time which one would it be and whom would you play?
DS:I’d be a Ninja Turtle. Does that count? Raphael. I’d eat a lot of pizza.
YA:What 5 songs are you currently listening to on your iPod?
DS:I haven’t updated my iPod in two years, so same old. But on Spotify, Poolside, Empire of the Sun, Fitz & the Tantrums, Mayer Hawthorne, etc.
YA:Thanks so much for your time and hope to see lots more of you in the future.
DS:Thank you for the birthday wishes! Cheers!
