ya-movie-casting-roundup

It would seem that casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than you can reload Chloe Grace Moretz’s IMDB page, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date each month on who’s playing what, who’s not, and who should. The roles and stars everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…

Let’s start with a bang shall we? The next YA sci-fi super-franchise hopeful will be The 5th Wave starring none other than Chloe Moretz, and some new actors are testing to star opposite her: Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life), Nick Robinson (Melissa & Joey) and Mitchell Hope.

Another amazing sounding adaptation dates from a little further back—Jem & The Holograms! The live action film will follow an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an overnight online music star. She and her friends embark on a music-driven adventure that sends them across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a family secret. And as if the project could not sound cooler, eighties teen icon Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, Secret Life of the American Teenager) will be a cast member!

Meanwhile, in sequel land, it has been confirmed that Skylar Astin will return in Pitch Perfect 2 along with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Adam DeVine. Interestingly enough, the film will also mark the feature directorial debut of Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket of The Hunger Games), who produced the original.

Evan Peters as Quicksilver in Days of Future PastAnd Evan Peters, the news-making actor who plays Quicksilver in the hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, will be reprising the role in the third installment of this franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse. His sister The Scarlet Witch (NOT Elizabeth Olsen from the Captain America/Avengers universe?) might be featured as well. Peters is known for his role in Kick-Ass, and American Horror Story.

Gareth EdwardsOf Poseidon coverSpeaking of Ms. Olsen, her Godzilla director made major news last week when it was announced that he will be helming one of the much-fabled Star Wars spinoffs slated for the coming years. All other details remain a mystery, but we’re hoping these spinoffs end up being origin stories for Han Solo or Bobba Fet.

Lastly, good news for fans of Anna Banks Of Poseidon series (and for the author herself!)—the entire series, about a young woman who learns she is descended from mermaids, has been optioned for film!
