Few film franchises are as successful as the Step Up series. There have been 4 films to date and a fifth slated to hit shortly. Megastar careers have been launched and dreams have been actualized because of this awesome, dance-filled, romantic series. Here, in anticipation of Step Up: All In, we’re taking a walk down memory lane and reviewing the series that has captured our hearts and inspired our feet

Step Up came out in 2006 and was directed by the talented Anne Fletcher. At the time it starred two largely unknown actors, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. Besides establishing the series, the film launched both of the stars into the stratosphere and ended up with them getting married in real life. They continue to charm audiences to this day in many non-dance related projects.

Due to the massive and somewhat unexpected success of the first film, a sequel quickly followed. Step Up 2: The Streets came out in 2008 and followed different dancers in Baltimore. Briana Evigan captured hearts and the film was a box office success. Channing Tatum reprised his role in this film, and this was the last one that he was integrally involved in.

The franchise continued to produce another movie in rapid succession with Step Up 3D in 2010. The movie followed fan favorite Moose and also followed Camille as they branch out at attend college. Moose captivated hearts everywhere and reminded everyone why he was so popular in the first two films. The soundtrack on this film really set a higher standard and featured songs from Flo Rida, Trey Songz and T-Pain.

On track with it’s predecessors, Step Up Revolution came out two years later in 2012. This one was done without any involvement from Disney unlike the previous three films and it has a more adult feel than the prior films. Ryan Guzman starred as Sean, which would prove to be a breakout role for the hottie. Flash mobs were prominently featured which was also a bit of a departure from previous films.

The newest Step Up Film, Step Up: All In, is set to be released this year, keeping the two year gaps in films consistent throughout. In this upcoming film, previous beloved Step Up stars battle it out in Las Vegas to see who has the juice to back up their talk. While we’re definitely going to miss Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan in this one, we’re excited to see some of our other favorites return to battle it out!
