Lorde

Lorde has been on everybody’s lips in the last year, and for good reason. She had a number one smash with her debut single Royals and by the end of last year her debut album Pure Heroine had gone platinum. All this followed by a couple of GRAMMYs on the mantelpiece must have been thrilling enough, but this week it was announced to great fanfare that Lorde will be curating the soundtrack for The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1 as well as contributing a song of her own to the mix.

Says Francis Lawrence (director of Mockingjay part 1) “I sat down with Lorde on the set of ‘Mockingjay’ this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film. Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack.  I can’t wait to share what she’s done with the fans — it is truly remarkable.” It’s such a hotly anticipated sequel (the first two films have grossed just shy of $1 billion worldwide) that she may have her work cut out for her, but if anyone is well fitted to represent the Mockingjay, it’s our little Kiwi songbird. We can’t wait to see what she’s done!
