This one sounds fascinating, dark, and daring. Cadence’s mental health is clearly in as poor condition as his physical health. But the girl he scarred in childhood is under his sociopathic spell. We hope that Sphinxie’s story serves more for a warning than romanticizing this kind of unhealthy relationship, because we really want to be able to read and recommend!
The cover is curious and just as hard to look away from as the synopsis is to walk away from. At first it looks like a child’s finger-painting or watercolor of a butterfly. But look closer and you’ll see Cadence and Sphinxie in either wing, looking solemn. It draws the eye to be sure.
