You probably can’t wait for Mockingjay: Part I either, and you’re not the only one. As we head further into this beloved YA story on the big screen, we are checking in – who do we like better for Katniss, Peeta Mellark or Gale Hawthorne? And delving even deeper, which actor has done his character more justice, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta or Liam Hemsworth as Gale?
Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson)
If you have a weakness for the tortured, Peeta Mellark would be your pick. As played to a fault by the adorbs Josh Hutcherson, it’s clear that Peeta needs Katniss, on so many levels. His vulnerable nature, passionate feelings and resourcefulness make him a worthy contender for Katniss’s heart. Josh Hutcherson has taken his fame from The Hunger Games and run with it, publishing an attention-getting article last year in GQ, in spite of playing a character whose wishy-washiness is (let’s face it) sometimes annoying.

Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth)
For the classic choice, go with Team Gale. Performed by the stunning Thor junior Liam Hemsworth, Gale is strong, masculine, independent, old-fashioned. Having grown up together, a shared experience gives Gale a leg up with Katniss, and there is something completely natural when these two characters share the screen (which has been rare until now). True, some might say that Liam plays Gale as somewhat of a softie, but all that’s about to change when the pair bring out the big guns in the revolt set to go down in Mockingjay: Parts I & II.
