About the Album: Mayer Hawthorne is well aware of the connotations of the term “neo-soul” that follow his music around. However, there are few artists for which this description is more apt. Hawthorne’s third full-length album, Where Does This Door Go is set to be released. Fellow soul-aficionados Pharrell Williams, Jack Splash, and Oak are featured producers on the album. Hawthorne himself describes the material as “Steely Dan meets the Beastie Boys”, adding, “The only rule I had when I went in to make this album was that it had to be fun.” Additionally, this album is less of a breakup letter than his former 2011 effort How Do You Do. Referring to the title, Hawthorne says this album is more “a journey into the unknown. As a musician, you’re only as good as your next record, and you never know what’s through that next door.”
