Are you a fan of mythology? What about Chinese mythology? This upcoming, highly-anticipated series has fans excited for American Born Chinese’s release on Disney+! Follow the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling with high-school with his immigrant home life. But when a new student suddenly enters Jin’s life, different worlds collide. Jin finds himself entangled with the affairs of Chinese mythological gods. Be sure to check the series out on May 24th!
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai – 5/23
Fans of animation and Chinese folklore, here’s a series that you’ll enjoy! Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is an upcoming animated series released on HBO Max. The show tells the story of Sam Wing, who meets a young Mogwai named Gizmo. Alongside a street thief named Elle, the three undergo a journey through the Chinese countryside encountering various, Chinese spirits from Chinese folklore. Be sure to catch the show on the 23rd to see how Sam and Elle bring Gizmo back home to his family, while also uncovering a legendary treasure along the way.

For those who are fans of Zooey Deschanel, here’s some exciting news for you! Known for roles such as Jess Day from New Girl, Jessica Day from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the voice of Bridget from Trolls, and Summer from 500 Days of Summer, Zooey stars as the host of her latest show. Riley Weaver Needs a Date to the Gaybutante Ball by Jason June – 5/23
This upcoming, young adult rom-com written by Jason June will be released on May 23rd! Riley Weaver, a femme, gay podcaster who had just made it to Junior High, can now finally apply for membership into the Gaybutante Society. An LGBTQ+ organization that helps launch dozens of queer teens into careers involving pop culture, activism, and the arts. But to even get into the Gaybutante Ball, the ball that hosts a marathon of events like charity events, Riley needs a date for the ball. The book contains elements where the author explores the avenues of how labels can limit and liberate us, and shows just what can happen when you decide to bet on yourself for a certain outcome.
