Since being released in theaters two weeks ago, Moana 2 continues to ride the box office wave, cementing itself as one of the biggest films of the year. The second film sees Moana continue on her adventures, but now as a big sister! We got to chat with the incredible Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, who voices Simea, Moana’s three-year-old rambunctious little sister, to learn more about the audition process and working on such a powerful movie.
The sequel to Moana takes place three years after the events of the first film. After receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors, Moana reunites with Maui and journeys to the far seas of Oceania and into the dangerous waters for an adventure to break Nalo’s curse. Auli’i Cravahlo and Dwayne Johnson reprise their star roles of Moana and Maui and the film also stars Rose Matafeo, Nicole Sherzinger, Temuera Morrison, and many more.
While she hasn’t met Dwayne yet, Khaleesi said she got to meet and interview with Auli’i and said she was the absolute best person and someone she looks up to.
“I got to meet Auli’i at the Four Seasons and I got to interview with her.”
Khaleesi said during her first audition, she got to see what Simea would look like and learn her lines. She was at home when she found out she got the role, and couldn’t stop jumping up and down!
“I loved when I had to say ‘Moana’ and I loved the part that I had.”
Moana 2 marked Khaleesi’s first major role in a movie, and while she said it was at times weird to be working alone in the sound booth, she loved playing an energetic and cute Simea.
“I was excited to see my culture.”
At the premiere of the movie, Khaleesi wore a beautiful dress that was made by her cousin and she loved seeing her culture on the big screen. With initial talks of a Moana 3, Khaleesi said she hopes to continue her acting dreams in that!
“I felt so pretty [at the premiere]”
