A Lying Game of our Own

Alexandra Chando plays Emma Becker, a child who was separated from her twin sister at birth, and who went through the foster care system.  Emma finds her sister, Sutton Mercer, who, unlike Emma, was adopted into a family of wealth, privilege, and entitlement.  This has shaped who they are as Emma is grounded and compassionate, and Sutton is not.  They trade places to see if they can find their birth mother and the truth of why they were separated.

Alexandra started in community theater after she saw “Annie” and always wanted to be an actor.  It was “the only choice for me”.  Her parents have been most supportive.  When she first read the script of The Lying Game she loved it and enjoys playing both characters though Sutton is “a little more fun”.  Alexandra feels she is more like Emma as she is compassionate and tries to be supportive of her friends.  She doesn’t think she’s selfish, but feels she has Sutton’s strong character.

The show is filmed in Austin, Texas and she enjoys working with her fellow actors. To help stay in character, they tape Sutton on some days and Emma on others.  Alexandra wouldn’t let us in on any secrets, but does confide that there
“big bombshells in the next season – a lot of twists”.

Alexandra worked on “Construction”, an independent movie in New York, before she started filming The Lying Game, but doesn’t know if it will be released.  She would like to direct and she watches the production crew on her set for pointers.

Her favorite book is A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, and she is currently reading The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho.

Thank you, Alexandra, for taking the time to speak with us.  It was a pleasure meeting you.
