The final season of Love, Victor premiered on Disney+ and Hulu two weeks ago, leaving fans of the series with a heartfelt completion to the character arcs and stories they were invested in for three seasons. One of the most beloved and central characters to the show is Rahim, played by Anthony Keyvan. YEM got the chance to sit down with Anthony and ask him some questions about the show and his experience playing Rahim.
Love, Victor, based in the same universe as the hit movie, Love, Simon, is about Victor Salazar, a gay teenager, coming to terms with his sexuality and working out the kinks of adolescence, all while living in a new town. The show brings up a bunch of different themes by exploring a variety of relationships and their dynamics. One of the central relationships that Victor has starts in season two, when he’s introduced to Rahim. Rahim is a student at Creekwood High who is also struggling to come out, and he and Victor bond over this and their many other interests.
As Victor and Rahim start to form a relationship, it develops into a love triangle, along with Benji, which creates an interesting dynamic for viewers to follow in season three of the show. We were so excited to get the chance to ask Anthony a whole bunch of questions about his character and what he thought about the Benji, Victor, and Rahim love triangle. You’ll definitely want to tune in to hear his thoughts!
One of the main praises of the show is its portrayal of LGBTQ+ relationships in a positive light, which we get into with Anthony during the interview. Queer media is often centered around trauma and dark stories, and Anthony talks about how important it is that the beautiful parts of being a member of the LGBTQ+ community are also portrayed. With Love, Victor being a show that has truthful LGBTQ+ representation on screen, it was definitely awesome to talk to Anthony and get his perspective on the importance of the show in that aspect. You don’t want to miss out on what he has to say!
We also got to talk a lot about Rahim’s character with Anthony and get his perspective on what he thinks about the character he plays. Rahim is definitely more of a “bad boy” than Victor is, so their relationship definitely allows for an interesting dynamic to take place. Also, since Rahim was introduced later in the show, his character creates quite a bit of tension for Benji and Victor, especially because of how close Rahim and Victor get. The final season centers around the main arc of Victor deciding whether he wants to pursue a relationship with Benji, Rahim, or a new character, Nick. It was so much fun to talk about what Anthony thought about this complicated romantic web and what he had to say about his place in it!
Anthony also gave us some behind-the-scenes info during the interview, so you’ll have to watch and see what we talked about! He let us know who he originally auditioned for, as well as why the producers thought he’d better fit the character of Rahim. If you’re a fan of Love, Victor, you definitely won’t want to miss out on getting this BTS knowledge! Anthony also told us about what the fan response to Rahim was like, which was pretty varied, to say the least. Some fans loved Rahim’s character after he confessed his love to Victor, and they were hoping that the two would end up together, while others weren’t so convinced. Anthony tells us a little bit about what it was like being on the receiving end of all those opinions and fills us in on just how passionate fans of the show are about these characters.
Something fans were concerned about was whether or not Rahim would end up in the happy, healthy relationship that he deserved, regardless of if that was with Victor. We got to talk to Anthony about a newly introduced character, Connor, who ends up with Rahim at the end of the season after Victor picks Benji. YEM also has an exclusive interview with Tyler Lofton, who plays Connor, so if you’re interested, be sure to check it out! Rahim’s relationship with Pilar is also interesting, as it sets up a common meeting point for him and Victor, so it’s definitely interesting to think about how Victor and Rahim’s relationship would have panned out if it wasn’t for the complicated love triangle.
We are so thankful for Anthony’s time and the care he put into discussing his character. If you’re a fan of the show, you definitely will not want to miss this interview. You can also check out Rahim’s character recap here, so you can be refreshed on all things before you watch the interview.
If you’re a fan of Love, Victor, you’ll definitely want to be sure to tune in to this interview and hear all about what Anthony has to say about Rahim’s character and his place in the new season. We would also love to hear your thoughts in the comments section! What did you think of Rahim? Would you have rather seen him end up with Victor? We’d love to know what you think, so be sure to leave any questions and comments down below. Also, be sure to check out Anthony’s work in Love, Victor and stay on the lookout for his other upcoming projects! You can catch all three seasons of the show exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu.
