Everything We Know About ‘Riverdale’ Season 2

Riverdale’s first season is not over yet, but the cast is already spilling on Season 2.

Here’s everything that is coming…

1. The entire town will change

“I can tell you that the finale that we shot is not the finale that we started in mind. It has probably three or four giant set pieces for us,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells Entertainment Weekly.

“If Jason Blossom’s death changed Riverdale in a fundamental way, what happens at the end of the season yet again fundamentally changes what kind of town Riverdale is again, and it’s probably not going to be for the better. And that’s what I’ll say about that.”

2. Another mystery is coming

“There’s going to be a new mystery involved,” Lili Reinhart tells POPSUGAR.

“That mystery is kind of started in the finale of our season one.”

3. The rumored second death in Season 1 will set up season 2

“If the rumored death happens, it would go to set up Season 2,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells Entertainment Weekly.
4. Betty will play an important role in the Season 2 mystery

“It’s a new mystery that involves the entire town,” Lili Reinhart tells Teen Vogue.

“Betty herself is a point of interest in the mystery. You’re going to see Betty’s dark side come out again.”

5. A surprise guest is confirmed

“Sabrina, I don’t know if you’re familiar with Sabrina from the comics, she’s going to come,” Archie portrayer K.j. Apa teased at San Diego Comic Con (Den of Geek).

“Yeah, she comes in our last episode.”

6. A new person with a darker backstory will be making their Riverdale debut

“And the other thing I will say is that in the finale there is an appearance of a character from the Archie mythology that has a darker origin and backstory,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells Entertainment Weekly.

7. Season two will bring a ‘bold genre statement’

“Obviously I can’t confirm or deny anything, but I will tell you that Afterlife or not, there definitely will be a big genre element to Season 2,” Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spilled to Entertainment Weekly.

“It won’t suddenly just be a coming-of-age drama. There will definitely be a very strong, bold genre statement.

“If Season 1 is a murder mystery, it won’t necessarily be another murder mystery. We’re telling, for us, kind of the best version of a murder mystery: Who killed Jason Blossom? So whatever twist in genre element that we add in Season 2, it’s going to be different from that and probably, I think, it’s going to make people go, ‘They’re not really doing that, are they?’”

8. Everything will be darker

“Darker and weirder. much darker. much weirder, Cole Sprouse said in his Reddit AMA. “Tone and genre elements that we touched upon in the cinematography and narrative are getting a big emphasis Season 2.”

9. But things won’t change TOO much

“What I can say is… look if it’s not broken, don’t fix it,” Marisol Nichols told Wetpaint.

“[W]e aren’t just going to start doing silly little love stories.”
10. The parents’ high school days are coming

“You get to see Alice Cooper and Mary Andrews meet up. There’s a little [about] what they went through in high school, as well. They definitely knew each other. They had some issues back in the day,” Madchen Amick, who plays Alice Cooper, tells TVLine.

The actress teased the showrunner “definitely has some really fun flashbacks planned for next season.”

Riverdale airs Thursdays at 9 p.m ET on The CW.
