Hilary Duff has traveled a long way, literally and figuratively, from her beginnings in Houston, Texas as a teenager into a fully fledged businesswoman who’s a well established part of the scenery in Tinseltown. We fondly remember watching her struggle to find the perfect bra on Lizzie McGuire before graduating to that threesome with Dan and Vanessa in Gossip Girl, along with whistle stop roles in Two and a Half Men and Law and Order: SVU. She’s also had film success, co-starring with Chad Michael Murray in the adorable Cindarella Story and Bonnie Hunt in Cheaper By the Dozen. Then effortlessly moving onto YA books, in 2010 Hilary released Elixir, which became a New York Times bestseller, and subsequently spawned two sequels. As if all of this success wasn’t enough, Hilary navigated the waters carefully with her beautiful singing voice to make herself a full triple threat. Her debut album came out in December 2002 and her second album, Metamorphosis, released in 2003, went triple platinum with the song Come Clean was used as the theme music for MTV’s Laguna Beach.
Hilary’s been pursuing other projects so we haven’t heard from her since her 2007 album “Dignity”, but she just signed to RCA Records and with only a few days to go, it was just announced that this Tuesday she’ll be hitting the airwaves once again, with a single called “Chasing the Sun”. Her last couple of singles took a raw, rock infused tone that we liked, but the title suggests that we can expect something a bit mellower from her next effort. Hilary is still a tender twenty six years old, and we imagine she would be so busy that she doesn’t even have time to draw breath, but yesterday she posted a snippet of her adorable two year old son Luca dancing on the beach to the song and it promoted the laid back summer vibe that the title suggests. We can’t wait to hear the song in full when it drops and the ensuing album, her FIFTH, when it comes out in the fall. She’s also lined up a role on forthcoming dramedy Younger opposite Sutton Foster, created by Darren Star of Sex and the City fame, which begins shooting in August. We can’t wait for Hilary to delight our ears and eyes later in the year.
