New Music Friday: April 28th

We don’t know what the weather’s going to be in your area on Friday, but we do know our New Music Friday can bring sunshine and happiness into your life.

For those who don’t know, our New Music Friday focuses on 20 new, little-known songs by lesser-known articles. Each week, our staff compiles a brand-new list for our target audience, particularly music fans.

As a music fan, you can expand your playlist with one or more of our 20 songs, such as “Open The Door” by Carolina Liar. Here are our top 20 songs for the week ending April 28, 2023.

Did you hear? The Burned is an American band. They’re based in Washington state. 

The Burned’s new song “Ghosts” can delight your ears, especially if you’re a rock music fan. “Ghosts” is a rock song with enticing guitar, drums, and lyrics. You’re welcome.

3. “Second Best” by Dearheart

Have you heard? Dearheart is an American post-emo rock band. They’re based in Seattle, Washington.

Dearheart has released a new song “Second Best” to the general public. If you’re interested in post-emo rock or rock in general, you need to listen to “Second Best” as soon as possible. You won’t regret it at all.

4. “Heartless” by Astronaut

In case you didn’t know, Astronaut is a Danish psych-rock band. They currently reside in Copenhagen, Denmark. They were originally formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Astronaut has released their new song “Heartless” to the public. “Heartless” features a fluttery future bass with scrumptious synths and a downtempo beat. Does that sound good?

5. “Once Twice Melody” by Beach House

In case you missed it, Beach House is an American musical duo. They were initially formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 2004. 

Beach House has released new music through the years. Their new song “Once Twice Melody” boasts brightening strings and feathery acoustic guitars. How about that?

6. “Open The Door” by Carolina Liar

Haven’t you heard? Carolina Liar is an American-Swedish rock band. Their lead vocalist Chad Wolf is initially from Monks Corner, South Carolina, while their other members are originally from Stockholm, Sweden. 

Carolina Liar’s new song “Open The Door” can resonate with you and your personal life. Some of the lyrics in “Open The Door” are legendary. Take, for example, “I promise it won’t take long. You’ll be singing a different song. Understand you have no way to back out now.”

7. “Wide-Eyed Nowhere” by Turin Brakes

By the way, Turin Brakes are an English rock band. They originated from Balham, London, England.

Turin Brakes’ new song “Wide-Eyed Nowhere” showcases the band’s speckled textures and pastored flavors. “Wide-Eyed Nowhere” can bring you back to simpler times with the band’s bare essentials.

Hey, guess what? Ivan & Alyosha is an American indie rock band. They were initially formed in Seattle, Washington. 

Ivan & Alyosha returned to the indie rock scene with their new single “Everything To Me” in recent days. “Everything To Me” signaled a reinvigorated return for the band. Frontman Tim Wilson told Nettwerk Music Group: “I decided to double-down on music, but with a much different approach … In the past, the band would sit in the studio for two or three years, banging our heads against the wall until we finished the record, and I knew we’d have to function in a new way if we were going to move forward.”

10. “portugal” by Melanie Jo

Guess what? Melanie Jo is an American singer. She was born and raised in the Midwest, but she currently lives in Los Angeles, California.

Melanie Jo’s new single “portugal” is out now. “portugal” is a great single for anyone who likes to travel, whether they’re 16 or 26, thanks to its emotional lyrics, catchy verses, and fresh beats.

11. “Stranger Than Fiction” by Chase Plato

Chase Plato is an American music artist and producer. He’s from Detroit, Michigan.

Chase Plato’s new single “Stranger Than Fiction” puts his songwriting, producing, and artsy skills on display. “Stranger Than Fiction” should be on your radar right now.

12. “famous last words (an ode to eaters)” by Ethel Cain

Ethel Cain, born Hayden Silas Anhedonia, is an American singer-songwriter. She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and currently lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Ethel Cain’s music is eccentric, to say the least. She has been experimenting with writing, recording, and producing her own ethereal style since 2017. She was initially inspired by Christian songs and Gregorian chants. Her new single “famous last words (an ode to eaters)” is a heart-wrenching song, to put it mildly.

13. “Charlie Charlie” by Ben Reilly

Ben Reilly is an American rapper who has been taking rap seriously for more than a decade. Reilly was born and raised in New York, and he grew up with hip-hop and comic books.

Reilly’s new single “Charlie Charlie” is so fresh, and so clean. “Charlie Charlie” showcased a high level of consistency, along with a plethora of creative freedom.

14. “i’m fine, thx 4 asking” by King Isis

King Isis is a self-proclaimed “queer, Black genre-bending afrofuture.” She was born and raised in Oakland, California. Oakland is one of the top cultural hubs in the US.

King Isis is a newcomer to the Dirty Hit/No Matter record label. She recently released her debut EP, Scales, and a new single “i’m fine, thx 4 asking” which she describes as a “focus track.” Would you also describe “i’m fine, thx 4 asking” as a focus track?

15. “Amelia” by Samia

Are you looking for a new singer-songwriter? If so, look no further than Samia.

Samia, short for Samia Najimy Finnerty, was born in Los Angeles, California, to Lebanese-American actress Kathy Najimy and American actor Dan Finnerty. Samia’s new single “Amelia” is about being grateful to wake up everyday and to have friends, according to Northern Transmissions.

16. “KARMA” by Babebee

Looking for a new singer-songwriter? Look no further than Babebee. 

Babebee is an independent artist, producer, and videographer based out of Atlanta, Georgia. She arguably blurs the line between a singer-songwriter spirit and an electro indie sound. Her new single “KARMA” is a perfect example of her ability to blend the elements of indie pop, alt-rock, and experimental dance music.

17. “play pretend” by dexter in the news agent

dexter in the newsagent, or dexter for short, is one of the UK’s hottest rising musicians.

dexter is a south London-based airy alt-pop star. dexter’s new track “play pretend” is dazzling, as it solidifies the idea of identity and its constant stranglehold on her thoughts. In short, “play pretend” appears to come towards the end of her identity crisis.

18. “If I Weren’t Me” by Katherine Li

Katherine Li is a Canadian singer-songwriter who’s best known for her single “Never Had a Chance” on Spotify. She’s from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Fast forward to the present, and Katherine Li’s new single “If It Weren’t Me” has dazzled just like her previous singles. “If It Weren’t Me” is centered on lyrics surrounding unrequited love and heartbreak. Can you feel the raw emotion right now?

19. “lonely” by okayceci ft. Lonely$adBoy

okayceci, born Valentina Vasquez, is a rising pop artist and a Miami, Florida native. Meanwhile, Lonely$adBoy is a music artist from West Texas.

The pair produced a new single “Lonely” that has been breaking hearts while stealing the spotlight. “Lonely” is a romantic pop gem that lusciously blends bedroom pop, tender guitar loops, and dreamy vocals.

20. “Wretched Lie” by The Tubs

The Tubs are a London-based Welsh rock band. They’re not a new band, however. They’ve always been an incendiary noise-pop music act that has splintered into a network of interconnected projects.
