Olivia Rodrigo guts review!

It’s here! The oh-so-anticipated GUTS album from powerhouse pop/rock singer-songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo, has finally released and left many jaws dropped with its cutthroat honesty and painful brilliance. This album is the perfect follow up to her 2021 album project SOUR that took the world by storm. She carries over themes from her first project such as continuing her use of only lowercase lettering in titles and her ownership of the color purple. All 12 songs on this release are bangers in every sense of the word. Since the single release of “vampire” earlier this year, Olivia Rodrigo fans have been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for this teenage storyteller to feed them the album they have been begging for; and she did not disappoint.

Pulling from both sides of the emotional spectrum, this album has a great contrast of angry teenage angst found in songs like “bad idea right?” and “get him back!” to sweet sensitivity with songs like “lacy” and “teenage dream”. Rodrigo is able to take relatable concepts that every teen deals with and wordsmith them into musical masterpieces to be screamed at the top of your lungs in the car. She is brutally honest and incredibly witty in her lyricism and it keeps listeners in a chokehold. Olivia is not afraid to touch on any topic that comes to her mind even if she has to get angry and swear, and she does on over half of the tracks. No matter who you are, you are sure to find at least one song that strikes a chord with you on the GUTS album.

Overall, this 12/12 album was completely worth the wait. The way that Olivia Rodrigo reads teenage emotions like a book and inserts them into these musical masterpieces will have you eagerly longing for her next project.
