Ella’s world is equal parts fascinating and horrifying. We hope that the weighty topics of slavery and genetic modifications are handled with deft and aplomb. While there’s no hint yet if this is part of a series, it seems like the sort of plot which would be… but it’d be stellar if we were proven wrong!

When we first saw the cover, we knew we had to talk to about this book. The fashionable blue evening gown combined with the metal wire display cage immediately calls to mind the situation a pet such as Ella might be in: luxurious and confined. The choice of fewer colors helps draw in the eye, as well.

This is author Kate Jarvik Birch’s second novel, after DELIVER ME, a dystopian tale which drew comparisons in plot to THE HANDMAIDEN’S TALE.
