The teaser trailer for West Side Story is here!

During the 93rd Academy Awards The Walt Disney Company released the first teaser trailer for West Side Story! West Side Story is Steven Speilberg film adaptation of the beloved film and musical. The film will be in theatres on December 10th, 2021 after being pushed back from a December 2020 release date.

During the trailer the famous song from the film “A Place For Us” played , along with showing some amazing dancing from the cast. The trailer also shows members of both the sharks and jets and the romantic interests of the story, Tony and Maria, as they catch glimpses of each other from across the room. Some major events from the film are also shown such as the school dance, and the street feuding.

Additionally, The film stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina). 

Along with the amazing cast, and Steven Speilberg as the director, the film’s creative team is also filled with loads of talent. Tony Kushner, wrote the screenplay and serves as an executive producer. Tony Award winner Justin Peck choreographed the musical numbers in the film and renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and GRAMMY Award winner Gustavo Dudamel helmed the recording of the iconic score. Academy Award nominated composer and conductor David Newman (“Anastasia”) arranged the score with Tony Award winning composer Jeanine Tesori (“Fun Home,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie”) supervised the cast on vocals. Grammy nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Chicago”) served as executive music producer for the film. The film was produced by Spielberg, Academy Award nominated producer Kristie Macosko Krieger and Tony Award winning producer Kevin McCollum.

West Side Story is an amazing film and musical, and the upcoming version looks like it is not going to disappoint. Hopefully more trailers will come in the future!
