The Vampire Diaries Recap

FINALLY! Finally Stefan emerges from his watery prison in the quarry and Silas’ backstory is revealed. We open with Stefan stumbling into a bar and quickly feeding off the waitress. “Ripper Stefan” is not back to stay, however; he comes to his senses and tells the waitress to “run,” before staggering back outside. Unfortunately, he’s missing his daylight ring and Stefan starts to burn and then we —-

Go back and find that this is just another Elena/ Katherine dream. Stefan wasn’t actually burning outside and didn’t start to go on a tasty waitress rampage. However, since these dreams aren’t going away, the girls decide to finally follow up on the shared premonitions. They head off with Damon to find this bar in their vision in the hopes of tracking down Stefan.

Meanwhile, Silas is back on the scene and dealing with Nadia. The two strike up some kind of mysterious deal; Nadia agrees to find Katherine and kill Matt. Silas tells her to beg off the Katherine search for the meanwhile and pushes for Matt’s death because Matt is being possessed by Nadia’s partner, Gregory. Nadia kills him to show her commitment to Silas.

Back to Stefan: He’s finally rescued! That crazy stuff that Elena and Katherine were dreaming about did actually happen, but Stefan is okay, thanks to the witch Qetsiyah, who also happens to be Silas’ ex. DRAMA.

Qetsiyah tells Stefan et. al about Silas’ background. Qetsiyah and Silas were engaged and both travelers. Silas told Qetsiyah that he was so in love with her that he did not wish to ever be separated from her, even by death. Therefore, he convinced her to make an immortality potion that they would take on their wedding day. Romantic right?? Not so much.

Silas was not seeking immortality for him and Qetsiyah, but actually for him and his true love — Qetsiyah’s handmaiden Amara, who just so happens to be a dead-ringer for Elena. WEIRD.

Qetsiyah also tells the group that Amara and Silas were the original versions and that the resultant doppelgängers exist as an effect of the immortality potion. Hence the “shadow-self” of it all. Cross that one off the list of endless mysteries. Qetsiyah exacts her revenge by creating an infamous “cure” for immortality and forcing Amara to take one of the two doses, saving the second dose for Silas. Silas never took his dose of the cure and he was obviously able to evade her all these millennia.

Now Qetsiyah, or “Tessa,” is still not over this (girl, maybe time to move on?) and she intends to link Stefan to Silas, in order to weaken Silas so she can force him to take the cure. Tessa manages to link Stefan and Silas before Damon arrives to rescue his brother and she reveals to Damon that Elena and Stefan, the doppelgängers, will always be fated to be together. Doom all around. Tessa also reveals that she’s been the one planting the dreams in Katherine and Elena’s heads. So thanks for THAT.

At the same time, Nadia has kidnapped Katherine, but she has not yet turned her over to the weakened Silas. So now, Silas and Tessa are both hunting for Katherine, but more specifically, the cure in her blood. More competing exes drama. With Stefan rescued, Damon tells Elena how much he loves her. No summary can do that speech justice. You have to see it for yourselves. They share an intimate moment before Stefan wakes up, but instead of thanking them for finally rescuing him he appears to have contracted amnesia, “I’m sorry, I have no idea who you people are,” Stefan says. AMNESIA?!? DAMON AND ELENA DOOMED? HOLY UNHOLY DEAD. Tune into The Vampire Diaries on the CW Thursdays and watch the supernatural drama unfold. Check local listings for times.
