The Walking Dead S04E12 “Still”

Beth in Walking DeadOrdinary people in extraordinary circumstances causes interesting results, as we saw on The Walking Dead this week. We followed Beth and Daryl for the entirety of the episode. Daryl started out the episode moping and silent – FOR OVER SIX MINUTES – until Beth broke the tension with an ask…for a drink. Makes sense, but this is Beth’s first drink ever, which is pretty noteworthy. Instead of letting Beth go off by herself to find something to imbibe, Daryl accompanied her, displaying gentlemanly qualities despite his tendencies to be gruff.

The duo found themselves at a cabin the woods. They found some crazy moonshine there and proceeded to **finally** have some fun playing Never Have I Ever, or as Beth called it,  “I Never.” There are many variations of this game, and clearly it came out of a moment of intense stress….but it was a relatively tame version, if we do say so. Daryl did get a little bit angry at the whole “prison” of it all, and he proceeded to rip into Beth for handling stress in unusual manners – Tom Waits songs, we’re talking about you.

Despite the bleak moments and Daryl’s outburst, it was interesting to see a softer side of Daryl in his reflections on life with Merle. At the end of everything, Beth and Daryl burned down the shack, because what else are you going to do after you’ve gotten drunk on moonshine during the zombie-apocalypse. As for what this means for the future of our favorite post-apocalyptic crew…Maybe Beth and Daryl will continue  to grow closer…or Beth will get drunk and die in a subsequent episode? Kind of a toss up. Hopefully, we’ll see more Carl next week – it’s inevitable that the Terminus march will bring everyone together…but it’s unclear still who will be there.
