top 3 new singles

Every week, we post three of our favorite new music videos to hit the web so that you can get current with your music whilst enjoying a feast for your ears and eyes.  The style and tone may differ somewhat from week to week or video to video, but the awesomeness will remain consistent.  Feel free to do a little shimmy if you feel it’s appropriate … Enjoy!

Common featuring Big Sean – Diamonds

This is a black and white video with a classic aesthetic. The track, by Common featuring Big Sean, is all about champagne and big chains, and would we really expect anything less from an old school urban artist like Common? He won his first Grammy in 2003, and has been prolific in the hip hop world since then. Now he’s paired up with hot newcomer Big Sean; the resulting song isn’t an instant head nodder but more of a slow burner that gets you after a few repetitions of its insistent hook. Check it out:

Elysium – Bear’s Den

Elysium have come up with a pretty novel idea for a video to a kick ass folk rock song: the filmer followed a group of real friends who attend college in Seattle and got some incredible candid footage of moments from their summer. It’s a heartwarming testament to love and friendship, and the song is the perfect emotive accompaniment for the video. Check it out here:

The Gaslight Anthem – Get Hurt

This is the video for the title track from The Gaslight Anthem’s fifth studio album, released August 11th. It’s an undeniable rock anthem and the video is a real visual feast, with the band performing a show to an audience populated by modern dancers who are only to happy to release themselves to total abandonment. Strong stuff. Check it out here:

Robin Thicke – Get Her Back

Well well well … Robin Thicke is revealing a remarkably tender side of late. We’ve just heard the announcement that he’s naming his new album after estranged wife Paula; could this latest vid from the well known playboy be another none-too-subtle hint that he wants to change his ways? Hidden meanings aside, it’s a silky smooth love song with a laid back beat that could be a summer smash for Robin. If it’s anything like as big of a summer hit as ‘Blurred Lines’ was last year, maybe it will be just the remedy for his broken heart.

A Day to Remember – End of Me

This is the latest video from emo rockers A Day to Remember. It’s a pretty sad song about a break up from a broken hearted guy’s perspective, and the grainy video directed by Shane Drake has a pretty cool take on the song. If you’ve recently had your heart broken, this one goes out to you!

Sam Smith – How Will I Know?

Sam Smith cannot put a foot wrong these days; since shooting to fame as the guest vocalist on Disclosure’s 2012 single Latch, he’s come out with a slew of hit solo singles and a couple of days ago he dropped this delicious version of How Will I Know, the Whitney Houston dancefloor filler from 1985. It’s definitely a much more emotional rendition than the original, but it’s utterly beautiful and Sam Smith is confirmed as an enormous talent. Check out the video below:
