Birdy – Wings Vampire Diaries, Season 5 Episode 22

This is the track that’s playing as Alaric comforts Elena whilst Damon is joined by Bonnie on the Other Side. Birdy has been all over Young Adult Mag recently as we think this 18 year old Brit songstress has serious chops. It seems that many people agree with us. Discovered on a talent show at the tender age of 12, Birdy has recently been heavily featured in the soundtrack for forthcoming movie The Fault In Our Stars, and last year was nominated for a prestigious BRIT award for Best Female Solo Artist. Check out the gorgeous video to Wings below:

Ingrid Michaelson – Open Hands – The Originals, Season 1 Episode 22

It seems we have a penchant for female folk rock singers this week, because we’re loving this track by Ingrid Michaelson which plays as Klause sends Cami (who has gone to pay her condolences) away, telling her he can’t have her in his life. Ingrid is already in the vampire family, as her music has featured in previous episodes of the Vampire Diaries (along with many other shows including Grey’s Anatomy and Bones). The New York based musician has permeated our hearts x SIX ALBUMS with her soft voice and understated piano melodies and we hope for at least six more.

Classixx – All You’re Waiting For – Awkward, Season 4 Episode 5

Changing gears a bit, this funky synth number by Los Angeles natives Classixx plays whilst Jenna rocks out the Edward 40 Hands move at the party. Classixx started out in the remix game before landing a gig producing for Mayor Hawthorne, and now they are concentrating on making eminently danceable tunes of their own. We dare you not to want to bust out a few choice moves to this song, pulled from their 2013 album Hanging Gardens.

Phia – Do You Ever? – Faking It, Season 1 Episode 4

Amy tries her hand at lesbian seduction at The Twain whilst Do You Ever? Plays in the background and Shane looks on helplessly. Phia is an experimental Australian musician, who specializes in the kalimba, amongst other instruments, and who currently lives in Berlin. You probably can’t get to see her live unless you’re prepared to jet off to Germany in the near future but watch this space for more info!

Jessy Lanza – Strange Emotion – Faking It, Season 1 Episode 4

This song is playing as Karma blows her lesbian cover by kissing Liam in the wood-shop room, and declaring that she wants to sleep with him. The lyrics are pretty apt for the tone of the scene, and the song itself is very pretty, with Jessy utilizing all kinds of soft synthesizer noises. Jessy is from Hamilton, Ontario and self identifies as ‘electro R ‘n’ B. ‘ She released her debut album, Pull My Hair Back, in 2013 and is about to embark upon a European tour.

Honorable Mention – Sleeping Beauty – Once Upon a Dream

This theme song from the 1959 Disney cartoon is so sweet it will make diabetics of us all. We literally could not be more thrilled to see the reimagining of the film from the baddie’s perspective, in the form of Malificent, which arrives on June 18th. You can’t fail to have seen trailers and promotional material for this film unless you have been in a coma, much like Sleeping Beauty herself. Angelina Jolie has been working on this project for what seems like foreeeeever, and it’s the first time we’ll see her on screen since 2010’s The Tourist. We have missed her so very very much.
