Andrew Belle – Wants What It Wants // Pretty Little Liars, Season 5 Episode 6

This track plays as Caleb tries to persuade Hanna to go to the authorities after the explosion at the Cavanaugh house. It’s a discordant, unsettling track that fits in well with the frightened mood of the scene. Andrew Belle, aka Drew Forston, is an all American boy who splits his time between Chicago and Nashville. This track was pulled off his second studio album, Black Bear.

Bess Rogers – Anchor // Chasing Life, Season 1 Episode 6

This track plays as April hops on the back of Leo’s bike and they ride off. It’s a carefree kind of track, the kind that sounds like it might be played by a band of gypsies. It’s ACTUALLY played by New Yorker Bess Rogers, who comes from Long Island, so not quite a gypsy. She plays a lot in New York so if you’re ever in the city, check her out!

Riley and the Roxies – Twisted American Girl // Chasing Life, Season 1 Episode 6

This song is playing at Greer’s place as she hosts her house party. It’s rousing indie rock from Riley and the Roxies, which is actually just one man, Spencer Riley, who is based out of LA, and whose music has also been featured on Pretty Little Liars and Underemployed.

The Bones of JR Jones – Ticket Home // Under the Dome, Season 2 Episode 3

This song plays as Jim gets a good old-fashioned close shave from Lyle. Ticket Home is good old-fashioned country music so it all makes perfect sense. Bones’ real name is Jonathon Linaberry and before becoming a folk sensation he was (whisper it) a punk rocker. He released a new album, Dark was the Yearling, in May.

Tiesto and Showtek – Hell Yeah! // Teen Wolf , Season 4 Episode 4

This is the song playing as Mason and co. get the party started at Lydia’s place. Tiesto has a pretty good track record for rousing electronica and the producers of the show recognize this. Tiesto has been around for donkey’s years and has remixed everyone from Goldfrapp to Katy Perry to Kanye West, as well as releasing 40+ singles of his own and providing tracks for the screen for everything from Coke commercials to the soundtrack of Mission Impossible 4. Check out this banging track below:

TV Tunes

Pretty Little Liars

The theme song for PLL is one of the most recognizable on TV right now. The tune is by The Pierces and is called “Secret.” Ashley Benson was actually the one who suggested it, and we couldn’t imagine the show without it. The lyrics deal perfectly with themes like taking secrets to the grave.

State of Grace

State of Grace was a show that ended before its time, unfortunately. The comedy-drama ran for two seasons back in 2001-2002. The all-star cast included Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Faye Grant and Michael Mantell. The show followed two 12-year-old girls, unlikely best friends from different backgrounds. The theme song is the amazing tune “Do You Believe in Magic” by Lovin’ Spoonful, a song from the 60s that peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and continues to be used in movies and TV today.

Secret Life of the American Teenager

The Secret Life theme song is a bit tongue in cheek. Considering the show dealt with teen pregnancy, the allusion of the song to birds and bees is cheeky in a good way. The theme song, called “Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love)” is sung by Molly Ringwald, who played Anne Juergens on the 5-season run of the show.

The Fosters

The Fosters deals with some poignant and sensitive issues and it follows that the show’s theme song also deals with these same themes. The song “Where You Belong” by Kari Kimmell, whom we’ve had the good fortune of interviewing, was written especially for the show. Kari said that the concept came to her pretty quickly after reading a brief for the show – and we think that the tailor made nature comes through in the beautiful lyrics and melody.

Melissa and Joey

WHOA! Joey Lawrence hit the microphone again and recorded the super catchy theme song for Melissa and Joey, aptly titled “Stuck with Me.”  Joey has previously said it reminds him of the theme song for Friends and we agree. It’s iconic and catchy without being overbearing. Be sure to watch out for it on Joey’s new album, slated to come out later this year.

Ravenswood

“The One That Got Away” is a haunting and chilling song, making it perfect for the new hit show Ravenswood. The Civil Wars sing the tune and have a perfect lyrical quality. While it’s not as catchy as “Secret” on PLL, it has an ethereal quality that stays with you long after it ends, much like some of the themes and characters on the show!

Switched At Birth

The theme song for Switched at Birth doubles down on goodness. Not only does Demi Lovato sing it, but it’s called “Two Worlds Collide.” It’s PERFECTLY on theme for the show and it’s one of those songs that just keeps on making its way to the tops of our playlists.

The Lying Game

The Lying Game is another awesome show based on a series of books. One of the best parts of watching your favorite books come to life on TV is seeing what songs the music supervisors pick out to accompany your favorite characters. That makes the selection of a theme song of paramount importance. “Gun For A Tongue” by Butterfly Boucher was a great choice for The Lying Game, as the song is seductive, much like the characters in the show, and it uses amazing metaphors for lying. It’s also really catchy, which helps. We love it!

Baby Daddy

Baby Daddy is just that, a show about a dad who didn’t expect to be a parent. The show’s theme song is perfectly on point with the simple lyrics, “It’s amazing how the unexpected can take your life and change directions.” It cuts straight to the core of the show and is oddly catchy in its brevity. Listen and try not to get it stuck in your head!

TV TUNES

Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding featured in Girls Season 2 Promo

It’s fitting for a show about girls on the cusp of womanhood, where ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN that the song by Ellie Goulding sharing the sentiment is used. Goulding’s voice mirrors the tremulous, fearful yet striking way the Girls girls

Cuckoo by Adam Lambert featured on Pretty Little Liars

While we eagerly await new episodes of PLL, let’s take a moment to remember Adam Lambert’s perfect Glampire performance on 3X13 “This is a Dark Ride.” A song about people losing their minds and crossing lines set against a poppy upbeat backing track makes for perfect PLL fare. As seen in the official music video below, it’s a match made in TV heaven.

Oblivion
by Bastille featured on The Vampire Diaries

When Caroline reveals to Stefan what’s going on with Elena, it’s only fitting that a heartbreaking and depressing tune accompany the revelation. Oblivion fills that role perfectly. Even the lead singer of the band himself cites the song as depressing. Soaring vocals over delicate piano also make the tune seem temporally appropriate.

Messed Up
by Tegan and Sara featured on 90210

90210 has developed a knack for brining artists into the episodes – with great payoff. None greater than the use of Messed Up by Tegan and Sara. Featured in a party scene, the song provides a wonderfully angsty backdrop for a reconciliation.
