Adriiana – Love Alive // Arrow Season 2 Episode 17
This fun little techno track by Adriiana is playing at Verdant when Roy collides into a patron and his temper bubbles over. He goes straight to Thea and tells her he wants to end their relationship, so we’d say the lyrics are pretty apt! Adriiana’s self titled debut album is out now.
Ry X – Shortline // Arrow Season 2 Episode 16
This track is playing when Diggle shows up to Lyla’s hotel room before they get down. Ry X is a crazy talented singer songwriter who hails from Australia but lives in Los Angeles. Shortline has a sombre feeling to it but we think it’s reminiscent of some of the best work of the XX and touches of Radiohead. Last year he released the Berlin EP, which is well worth a listen.
The Chain Gang of 1974 – Miko // Tomorrow People Season 1 Episode 16
Can you feel the tension ebbing away? Can you?! This is the song that’s playing as Cara and John finally hook up again after months of yearning and waiting on both their parts. We can only guess whether their lovemaking session was as er … energetic … as this song! There’s so much going on in this track that it’s hard to believe that it’s the work of only one man, American DJ Kamtin Mohager who goes by the name of Chain Gang of 1974.
Foy Vance – Be The Song // Twisted Season 1 Episode 16
This beautiful, haunting track is playing as Jo laments her loss of Rico as a friend and avoids going into the diner to see him. Foy Vance has been on the scene since 2007: an Irishman by birth, he relocated to the midwest as a child and traveled extensively through the southern states. When he returned to Ireland as an adult, he had been heavily influenced by the rich musical traditions emanating from the south.
Sara Bareilles – Brave // Degrassi Season 13 Episode 24
Brave indeed. This song is played as Zoe’s sexual abusers get escorted from school and Zoe is caught up in a hug from Drew, Dallas, Miles, Maya and Tristan. Uplifting stuff, and we’d expect nothing less from Bareilles, who first broke the Billboard 100 with Love Song. She’s pretty good at producing an anthem, this one.
Young Summer – Fever Dream // Degrassi Season 13 Episode 25
This song is playing as Maya is sleuthing on Zig, believing that he stole her laptop. Young Summer is also known as Bobbie Allen, a DC native who sounds more than a little bit like Florence of Florence and the Machine, and in this track she throws in a handful of pop-synth vibes. Her EP, also called Fever Dreams, was released in 2013.
Tift Merritt – Small Talk Relations // Degrassi Season 13 Episode 26
This is the background music at the semi formal as Imogen and Becky start to awkwardly slow dance with one another – the intimacy of this song makes their lack of sexual attraction all the funnier, which we guess was the intention! Nevertheless, we were blown away by the heartfelt vocals and keys in this track. Tift started her career in the late 90’s and has recorded albums in North America, England, and France.
