The recurring theme of straight lines also suggests prison bars, trapping Shay within. Co-authors John Sandford and Michele Cook have teamed up quietly before with an adult title (Cook was uncredited), but this is the married couples’ first YA. Sandford is best known for his adult novels like the Virgil Flowers series and the Lucas Davenport series.
