Early reviews have arrived since the social media embargo has been lifted. Wonder Woman is “funny”, “kick-ass”, “heroic” and filled with “heart”. This may be the break through film for the DCEU (Detective Comics: Extended Universe) that was originally expected of Man of Steel or Batman v. Superman. As a DC fan, I’m anticipating this film will not only do justice (see what I did there?)for the storylines and characters but pave the way for strong female leads in superhero films ending the damsel in distress trope.
Reading through early reviews gave me the same chills I felt watching Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series. Buffy gave an empowered speech to a room full of potential slayers. It spoke to the strength and uniqueness of females and ignited the discussion for community, compassion, and confidence. If Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) is on this path then little girls and boys, adolescents, and even adults will have a female superhero to look up to; one this male dominated world has been desiring for ages, and a hero this world needs.
I am beyond excited to see this film! Cue the Hans Zimmer orchestra (and Junkie XL of course) Diana, Amazonian Princess is ready to break down walls, shatter glass ceilings, and lasso you in to a new era.
