It would seem that movie casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than it takes them to fast track another young adult series into production, the names on that list are changing all the time. Elle Fanning joins Susan Sarandon and Naomi Watts to round out the cast of Three Generations, a drama about a single mother who lives with her mother and her mother’s girlfriend, forced to confront past mistakes while supporting her 15-year-old daughter’s decision to undergo gender transformation. Elle will portray the transitioning teen.

evan-roskos-dr-birds-advice-sad-poetsThe most exciting development tidbit this week is an adaptation in the works for Evan Roskos’ Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets, an emotionally charged exploration of the wild world of a sixteen-year-old who struggles to overcome anxiety and depression and seeks advice from a certain Dr. Bird…a giant imaginary pigeon therapist.

Based on the story by Shona Tuckman (who is also involved in the above project, btw), Coaching Dad will well the underdog story of a teenage girl with incredible basketball skills who coaches her estranged father’s pitiful team.

Schooled will revolve around a sheltered young boy raised by his hippie grandmother who suddenly finds himself dropped into a rowdy public school, where he becomes somewhat of a humiliation.

something-wicked-this-way-comes-ray-bradburyIt looks like somebody has taken note of the success of Season 4 of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story. Disney has hired author Seth Grahame-Smith, of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies fame, to direct their currently-in-development adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes. The story revolves around two 14-year-old boys who square off against an eerie traveling carnival that uses evil powers to enslave the townsfolk.
