Series Rundown: The New Normal is the new thing from Ryan Murphy, the mastermind behind Glee and American Horror Story. After wild success in both the teen and horror spaces, Murphy decided to tackle the network-sitcom arena. The results are well worth the wait. Bryan and David are a happy Los Angeles couple, with successful careers to match. The only thing missing in their relationship is a baby. They meet Goldie, a single distressed Midwestern mother and waitress, who has recently moved to L.A. with her eight-year-old daughter Shania in tow after catching her husband in bed with another woman. Jane, Goldie’s grandmother, follows her family to the city against her granddaughter’s wishes. Goldie decides to become Bryan and David’s surrogate, which ties the two families together for good. In a show where “abnormal is the new normal” the social commentary is abundant and welcomed.

Highlight(s): Justin Bartha is highly underrated. Ellen Barkin is foxy and it’s nice to see her flexing those comedy muscles.
