Since Descendants 3’s release in 2019, Descendants fans have been starved of content. However, that’s no longer the case. Next in line of the beloved Descendants franchise is Descendants: The Royal Wedding, an animated television special, which follows Ben and Mal’s wedding. Young Entertainment Magazine interviewed Descendants stars Booboo Stewart who plays Jay and Cheyenne Jackson who plays Hades aka Mal’s father to talk about the upcoming animated special.
In Descendants 3, Hades the god of the underworld caused his fair share of trouble by attempting to sneak out from the Isle of the Lost when four more villain kids leave to go to Auradon Prep. Hades’ escape attempt plus Audrey’s burning jealousy at Ben’s proposal to Mal leaves both Auradon and the Isle of the Lost in chaos. Mal states that she cannot be queen unless the Isle of the Lost is sealed off forever. However, Mal who is accompanied by her old friends Jay, Carlos, and Evie, as well as new friend the villain kids, face darkness that is greater than them all.
At the end of Descendants 3, Mal removes the barrier between Auradon and the Isle of the Lost when she realizes that good people can do bad things and bad people can do good things. Everyone is capable of good and evil. She even invites her father Hades to her and Ben’s wedding. The upcoming animated special takes place shortly after where the third film left off.
“The relationships are about where they were before, and now it’s the planning of this wedding,” Cheyenne said. “Is Hades gonna ruin it all?” At this question, Booboo shrugged his shoulders from his video screen. I guess we can assume that this wedding won’t be as smooth as Ben and Mal hoped it would be.
“Hades is a drama queen. He loves attention. He wants everything to be about him, and he wants to be the star. So I was glad that there was some shenanigans and things that they wrote into that [Descendants: The Royal Wedding],” Cheyenne said.
