Matangi

About the Album: M.I.A has never been one to shy away from controversy and her new album Matangi is no different. Matangi — a reference to M.I.A.’s birth name, Mathangi, and a Hindu goddess of wisdom — was originally set to be released late last year, but now will hit stores in April. Even that date is tentative. Explaining the delays, M.I.A. herself says  “I thought I’d finished it. I finished it and then I handed the record in, like, a couple of months ago…At the moment, I’ve been told it’s too positive. So we’re having a bit of an issue at the label … It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy number 1, and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff.” She also said,  “I’m taking my time to decide what they mean. It’s an interesting one for me,” she said. Positive doesn’t necessarily have to be negative and hopefully this will mark a growth in her career.

Track Spotlight: “Bad Girls” which was already  massively popular, gets a second life with Matangi’s rerelease.
