Singer-songwriter Tony Ferrari sat down with Young Adult Magazine to discuss how he started writing music and performing, as well as what he wants his fans to get out of his music. Check out our exclusive interview with Tony below and download his album “Gentlemen” on iTunes.
“Music really became a big part of my life in high school. I had always written short poems and stories with my Grandpa growing up, and when I was about 16 that just evolved into music. My grandma had passed away, and my grandpa told me he ‘lost his heart for writing when he lost her.’ I considered that my cue to pick up where he left off. I fell in love with old soul music like Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke, and that really influenced me when I started writing my own music. I was writing all sorts of songs, and I decided to perform at my school’s talent show and finally share my songs. I’ll never forget the roar of that theatre after I finished. I was hooked for life. I have an equal amount of love for both performing and songwriting. Lyrics are so important to me because they’re my means of getting feelings out. I try to write lyrics that are completely and totally honest, because in doing that I actually learn a lot about myself. On top of that, when you write honest lyrics and other people connect with them it’s the best feeling in the entire world.
When people listen to my music, I hope they walk away feeling like they’re not alone. Everyone is going through their own kind of struggle, and I want my lyrics to remind people that we are all in it together. I hope that listeners will forget about the little things that cause stress, and just dance and enjoy themselves. More than anything, I hope people feel it instead of just hearing it. I’m spending a lot of time right now writing for myself and for other artists, as well as performing all kinds of shows. My hope is to travel the world and share my music with anyone who is willing to hear it. So I hope to see you at a show soon!”
