William Gao is an actor that can be seen in the television show Heartstopper. Heartstopper is a British coming-of-age romantic comedy streaming television series on Netflix, adapted from the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. It is about Teens Charlie and Nick, who discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love in this coming-of-age series.The show premiered on Netflix back in April. William Gao portrays the character of Tao Xu. YEM was able to interview William and speak to him about so many things. William spoke about his character Tao, about how he is similar/different to his character, and about the show.

During the interview William was asked “Who is Tao? Can you lay out your character for us, what he does, who he is?” William answered by stating “Tao Xu is a character who is Charlie’s really good friend, probably Charlie’s best friend actually. He’s very opinionated, he is quite cynical, but in his own special way. He is not afraid to say what he thinks, and that is what I love most about him. He gets really entangled in a lot of stuff at school and a lot of drama, but at the deepest level he is a loving friend and he is a very caring person.”
