YEM Exclusive Interview | with Isaac Ordonez from “Wednesday”

Hello YEM readers. Today we have an amazing thing to share with you. YEM recently got to sit down with Isaac Ordonez, who plays Pugsley Addams on the smash hit Netflix drama Wednesday. Isaac spoke with us about Wednesday, Pugsley, and his young acting career. If you’re as big of a fan of Wednesday as we are, then read ahead for details about the interview. But first, let’s discuss the show, the Pugsley character, and reveal more information about Isaac Ordonez. Remember that the video interview link will be at the end of the article, so be sure to watch.

Just in case you have been living under a rock and don’t know yet, Netflix’s newest hit show Wednesday is a spin-off series based on the original Addams Family show and films. In this version, Gomez and Morticia Addams’s rebellious daughter Wednesday is the center of the plot.

The series begins when Wednesday is reluctantly sent to Nevermore Academy: a school for outcasts, where secret societies, monsters, ghosts, and murderers run amuck. Not long after her arrival to Nevermore Academy, Wednesday is thrust into solving a mystery alongside her faithful companion named Thing.

Directed by famed director Tim Burton, Wednesday is played by actress Jenna Ortega who has received praise from critics and viewers alike for her portrayal. Jenna Ortega is joined by other famous faces, including Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who play Wednesday’s equally morbid parents. Other stars in the drama include Gwendoline Christie as Morticia Addams’s arch-enemy and principal of Nevermore Academy and Christina Ricci (from the live action movie version of Wednesday) as science teacher Marilyn Thornhill. Playing Wednesday’s brother Pugsley is Isaac Ordonez.

Pugsley is often ridiculed at school and is left virtually defenseless once his sister leaves for Nevermore Academy. While Wednesday and Pugsley torment one another at home, the two still share a strong and loving bond. One in which Pugsley misses after Wednesday’s absence.

Audiences are first introduced to Pugsley in the very first episode of the series after a gang of bullies tie him up, shove him in a locker, and gag him with an apple. Wednesday happens to pass nearby when she hears his stifled screams for help. Fearing retribution, the bullies quickly disperse as Wednesday promptly enters the scene. When Wednesday rescues Pugsley, she demands to know who the assailants are, but Pugsley is too shaken up from his ordeal to form a coherent sentence. Wednesday is left forced to track down the bullies. When she finally catches up with them, Wednesday doles out a swift and bloody justice as she places piranhas in the pool they are swimming in. To Pugsley’s dismay, Wednesday is expelled from school and sent away.

In real life, Isaac Ordonez is a 13-year-old American actor. In addition to playing Pugsley Addams in Wednesday, he has several other acting credits, including the 2018 film A Wrinkle in Time starring Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon.

When YEM caught up with Isaac, who has become virtually a household name overnight thanks partly to his stellar acting in Wednesday, we wanted to know more about Pugsley, the Addams family, and himself.

We started by asking Isaac what he knew about Pugsley and The Addams Family before he was cast in Wednesday. Isaac told us he was aware of the previous Addams Family screen adaptations. We also asked what the character description for Pugsley was when he read the script and what was the audition process like for Isaac. Be sure to watch the video to find out more about Pugsley and how Isaac discovered he got the role of a lifetime. We also asked Isaac about his experience working on A Wrinkle in Time. Isaac replied that his experience in the film convinced him that he wanted to continue acting. Next, YEM wanted to know if there were any exciting and funny moments on the set of Wednesday. Isaac told a hilarious tale that found him in an awkward and humorous position.
