As mentioned, this mystery drama TV series aired on August 18th, eventually releasing eight episodes in August and September. Created by Charlotte Coben, this series aired on Prime Video and was produced by Final Twist Productions, Amazon Studios, and MGM Television. The series’ cast members include actors and actresses such as Jaden Michael, Adrian Greensmith, Abby Corrigan, Sage Linder, Brian Altemus, and our interviewee, Constance Zimmer. While the novel’s story is different, the story’s general direction remains the same. The series follows the death of Mickey Bolitar’s father. Mickey started a new life in Kasselton, New Jersey, where he becomes tangled in the mysterious disappearance of Ashley Kent, a female student at his school, which leads him to a shocking secret in his silent suburban community.
For those who know the novel first, here’s a brief refresher. American crime writer Harlan Coben released the first novel of his Mickey Bolitar young adult series, Shelter, on September 15, 2011, through Putnam in the US and Orion in the UK. The contents are a little different, but most of the main characters remain in Harlan Coben’s Shelter. The novel featured the teenage nephew of Coben’s popular protagonist, Myron Bolitar. The series’s a New York Times best-selling series.
Here’s some information on Constance Zimmer. An American actress born in Seattle, Washington, Constance was raised by German migrant parents from East Prussia. She’s fluent in both English and German, partially because she spent parts of her childhood summers in Germany with her grandmother who only spoke German. She fell in love with acting in high school, decided to pursue a career in acting, and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California. Her acting career was first highlighted with her award-winning portrayal in a Los Angeles production of Catholic School Girls, where she won a Dramalogue for Best Actress award. If you recognize her, you might remember her from previous projects, such as Good Morning, Miami as Penny Barrington, In Justice as Brianna, and Girls Talk.
We first asked Constance what her experience was like playing Shira in Harlan Coben’s Shelter and if Shira’s different from the other roles she has played in the past. Constance answered that Shira was definitely different, but she obviously has some similarities as well. Constance mentioned that she liked Shira’s “fish out of water” element the most as Shira seems a little lost and confused by the ground around her and underneath her feet, but it gives her a sense of vulnerability, whether she wants to be vulnerable or not, and she has a lot of layers to her like a lot of secrets to be revealed.
We also asked Constance if she looks for suspense when it comes to projects to be a part of. Constance answered that she goes where the characters are. She continued that she follows characters more than she follows stories, and if it’s a character she feels that she can really dive into and be able to put out to the world, that’s what she’s drawn to and sometimes those characters tend to be in worlds that are more complicated. Constance went on to say that House of Cards was pretty suspenseful, but when it comes to the thriller genre of this world, she hasn’t dabbled in as much, but she does like characters that keep secrets as it makes them more interesting.
